The acquisition of English articles is one of the most difficult areas for the second language learners particularly (Marathi speakers) when there are no articles in their mother-tongue. The author in this book tried to provide an explanation on how the article and preposition systems and features of the students’ L1 influence the use of articles and prepositions in their L2 usage. It is well elaborated with the proper rules by providing supporting examples and errors they made in the test. This kind of investigation can hopefully add different perspectives in analyzing and investigating the misuses of English articles and prepositions. By doing this, the present book is an attempt for better understanding of the English article and preposition system by learners who are at different stages in their inter language development.
In this manner, this book is a detail study of English articles and prepositions in relation to errors of Marathi students that occurred because of first language interference.
About the Author:
Dr. Rajani S.Patil (M.A,B.Ed,P.hd ) experienced and passionate teacher with love for educating and motivating today’s youth. She has been working as an Acting-Principal at Mahilaratna Pushpatai Hiray Arts,Science and Commerce Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Malegaon Camp,Tal-Malegaon, Dist-Nashik. She has 29 years of teaching experience at senior college level.
The title of her doctorate thesis is ‘An Acquisition of English Articles and Prepositions by the Speakers of Marathi : A Study’.She has completed one minor research project on English language teaching. She has published one book entitled Research Process and Related Terminology in Language and Literature (A Handbook for Research Students).Her interest area is language and literature teaching.
